Helping an international energy consultancy improve compliance across its supply chain

Wood Mackenzie is a global energy consultancy – and its work spans anything from evaluating oil fields to predicting the effects of resource availability on fuel prices. Its independence and integrity are crucial to the value of its data and analysis.

The challenge

The company already had good compliance rates amongst suppliers – who provide them with everything from catering services through to the data which is their lifeblood.

But Wood Mackenzie isn’t known for being “good”. It is known for unsurpassed excellence – and it wanted to achieve compliance rates that were exemplary.

What we did

We helped Wood Mackenzie’s risk team to create a code of conduct – The Way We Do Business – to explain the dos and don’ts of dealing with suppliers, clients and confidential information.

It was structured and written so that everyone working for or with the company could easily understand what’s expected from them in their dealings with Wood Mackenzie.

International audiences

We wrote the document in “International English”. It’s a style of communicating that is easy for people whose first language isn’t English to understand and deal with.

Results

The code of conduct was distributed internationally and succeeded in increasing compliance rates. It also helped to distinguish Wood Mackenzie from other consulting firms – and helped to make the risk management team feel even more accessible and approachable.
