Creating a global organisation’s ESG report
Challenge
Our client is a multinational organisation that employs 200,000 people worldwide. Sustainability is baked into its offer – both through the expert advice it offers, and in its own operations.
Its annual Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) report is therefore a key strategic communication for the entire organisation, which is why they came to Wordtree for support.
The report, of course, needed to meet regulatory obligations, including a tight publication schedule and strict reporting standards. It also needed to align with the organisation’s key brand messaging – and communicate sometimes complex subject matter simply and interestingly.
Another core objective was to create the report in ways that allowed it to also act as an educational and sales tool.
Solution
We worked alongside our client’s full-time sustainability lead, who was the report’s editor. Together, we mapped out a process to allow us to translate scientific and technical data into stories that brought the organisation’s ESG activities to life.
We spoke to subject matter experts across the business so that we could create tangible case studies about the organisation’s great work and thinking. And we rewrote expert reporting to make it even more interesting and aligned with the organisation’s overarching messaging.
The output was a highly polished, easy to read – and compliant – report that was shared with many thousands of clients and stakeholders across the world.
Results
The organisation’s ESG report served multiple purposes. It simultaneously acted as:
- A corporate reporting document
- Tangible proof that their ESG advice worked – and that ESG measures were achievable for their clients
- A kit of case studies and collateral that could be easily copy-pasted into other documents, including pitches and sales packs
